Three weeks later
Gabrielle stood once more on the sand. She had been discharged earlier in the day and Megabyte and Jade brought her directly to the spaceship. Her toes dug into the warm sand and she sighed. The only thing missing was other people. The beach was deserted of all other Tomorrow People. Ami and Adam had only popped in for a moment when she first arrived and Jade and Megabyte were on some mysterious errand for General Damon.
Oh well. She thought. Guess I'll just go in for a rest. She teleported into the ship.
"Surprise! Welcome home!"
The shout woke her up from her daydream. All around her were streamers, balloons, and her new friends.
"Hey, I was beginning to think you guys didn't like me or something." She threw her arms around Megabyte and hugged him. She turned around slowly and sat. "Thanks, Adam."
"For what?" He put his arm around her shoulders.
"You probably saved my life. If it hadn't been for you, I would have blacked-out and died before anyone noticed."
"We would have noticed. As soon as Adam touched you, we could all feel the pain you were in." Ami sat down next to them.
"That was a very brave thing you did, pushing Jade out of the way like that. If you had been off on your timing, we would have lost her and probably you, too." Adam smiled as Gabrielle blushed.
"Enough of this. I want some of that chocolate cake Ami's mum baked." Jade stood with her hands on her hips and looked at them. They laughed and Ami picked up a knife. As she handed out slices of cake, Jade pulled Gabrielle aside.
"I just wanted to thank you. My mum was so upset when General Damon called to tell her what happened. I told her about you and she wants to meet you." Jade looked at the older girl expectantly.
"Jade, I'd love to meet your mother. I think you probably would have done the same thing for me." Gabrielle hugged her and realised that she was crying.
"What?"
"It's just everyone is always telling me that I'm too young and inexperienced to go off with them. And what happens when I do? I almost get killed. And you got shot." she sniffed
"Jade, that could have happened to any of us. You didn't do anything wrong."
She sniffed, "I didn't?"
"No."
Jade hugged her again and shyly pulled out a small box. "This is for you. Mum and I picked it out as sort of a thank you."
Gabrielle took it and slid off the gold ribbon. Inside lay a silver Celtic knot shaped like a triangle. "Jade, thank you." A few tears ran down her cheek.
"Are you two going to sit over there crying all day or are you going to join us for some volleyball?" Megabyte asked the two girls just as he, Adam, and Ami teleported outside.
Wiping away her tears, Gabrielle put on the necklace. "We're coming," she responded to no one.
Taking Jade's hand, they teleported outside and joined the others.
